Fried chicken

Fried chicken is a dish that involves coating chicken pieces in seasoned flour or batter and then frying them in oil until they are crispy and golden brown. This dish is popular around the world and has many different variations, but it is particularly associated with Southern cuisine in the United States.

Fried chicken is typically made with bone-in chicken pieces, such as drumsticks, thighs, and breasts, but it can also be made with boneless chicken strips or nuggets. The chicken is often marinated in a buttermilk mixture or seasoned with spices before being coated in flour or batter.

Fried Chicken step by step

The oil used for frying can vary, but most often it is vegetable oil or peanut oil. It is important to maintain a consistent temperature while frying to ensure that the chicken cooks evenly and does not become too greasy.

Fried chicken can be served hot or cold, and is often accompanied by side dishes such as mashed potatoes, coleslaw, biscuits, or cornbread. It is a popular comfort food and a staple at many fast food chains and casual restaurants.

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken pieces and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to overnight.
  2. In a separate large bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  4. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, and dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  5. Carefully place the chicken pieces in the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry the chicken until golden brown and cooked through, about 12-15 minutes for the dark meat pieces and 8-10 minutes for the white meat pieces.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the chicken to a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
