Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 package of Oreo cookies
  • 4 cups of your favorite frosting (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract, and mix on medium speed until everything is well combined.
  4. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Grease and flour three 9-inch cake pans.
  6. Divide the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  7. Crush the Oreo cookies in a plastic bag with a rolling pin until they are in small pieces.
  8. Sprinkle a layer of crushed Oreos over the batter in each of the cake pans.
  9. Bake the cakes for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and let them cool completely on wire racks.
  11. Once the cakes are completely cool, stack the layers on top of each other, spreading a layer of frosting between each layer.
  12. Crush some more Oreo cookies and sprinkle them over the top of the cake.
  13. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.

Decorate the top of the cake with more crushed Oreo cookies, if desired.
